indeed this is a good time to mention that if some people are trying to listen along with the braxtothon and/or are reading "old" posts... please don't refrain from commenting just because you assume the comments won't be read: i am informed by email of any new comments on any posts and will usually reply promptly. there is much more to be said about *all* this music! - c. x

obviously this is aimed chiefly at readers who don't use the r3 messagebored... where a huge amount of brax-related rambling has been posted in recent months, and believe it or not a great deal of it was *not* posted by me :)
doubtless the debates will continue there but i am happy to discuss any aspects of the programme here. those of you unfamiliar with r3's jazz output, take a look around, it's a good week for jazz on 3 also (mujician in concert). most people with any interest in this blog, at any rate, will tell you that r3's jazz coverage is very uneven (some of them would be a bit less polite than that). i mean, feel free to register on the messagebored too, bring a crash helmet maybe but it can be quite a fun place to hang out - ! some very knowledgeable people there, quite a few braxtonheads as i say... and mr shipton himself has been known to post on special occasions...
oh yeah, i knew there was something else... those of you who have never heard jazz library need to know that in the interests of utility, recordings which are (known to be) out of print are basically not considered for inclusion... i say this hoping to save time before anyone brings up the missing aristas, the album with oxley etc etc... (ironically the dortmund album is no longer in print either, of course... possibly was, when the prog was first being put together..? not sure about the merkin hall duet either!)
no takers huh? well, never mind... i probably said quite enough on the subject in that other place. mainly i was hoping to hear what people thought who *don't* usually listen to r3 or take part in the messagebored antics... anyway, if you didn't catch the prog or record it you've missed it now, until the next time at least (this being the bbc it's likely to get repeated at some point..?)
incidentally when i said this was a good week for jazz on 4... i was making assumptions. mujician, the occasional freely-improvising quartet, came highly recommended to me but i didn't find the music very rivetting when i eventually listened to it. ho hum
