as i'm sure most readers are well aware, we europeans write dates the other way round from our american cousins (date/month not vice versa)..!

happy 64th birthday to mr braxton :)

one day too late, but i also wish anthony braxton a happy birthday! and many more years of creative freedom to express himself and grow older happily.

today - as you pointed out at my side - is misha mengelberg's birthday: he's 10 years older than mr. braxton, and gets 74 this day! hopefully you have a happy birthday, mister mengelberg (without cigarettes, like i heard - i also quit because of my newborn son last december).

cheers to 2 wonderful musiciancomposers.

cheers lucky... sorry for the delay in responding to your comment!

incidentally... i don't speak catalan, but anyone with a passing knowledge of the romance languages will be able to paraphrase the text on the wall's left-hand side thus: "the earth is only one country, and humanity its citizens"

(while i remember to add that..!)

and humanity its citizens.

[sorry, i can't resist:]

and what about our favorite animals???

Happy belated, AB.

centrifuge, glad to see you're still doing this.

hi guys - lucky, thanks for pointing that out (in all respects!) - i never did check that album out (yet!), but also, while i think of it... we did see one or two less than savoury attitudes towards animals while we were in barcelona... the spanish (or indeed catalunyans) are not generally known for their "harmonious" views on animal rights ... it's well worth pointing out since the suffering of the animal kingdom in general is a story which must be told - and of the vegetable kingdom too, though i doubt most of us would be able to write that one (or indeed read it..!)

lee! good to read you here, man. just thinking about you the other day... hope things are going well for all of you :)

(demanding isn't it... rewarding too, like they say..!)

It's good to be back. Things are going well, yes. Demanding is the understatement of the year, but our little guy is turning out to be the musical sort so the rewards are many. Hope you all are well. I'll be digging through the last few posts this coming week so I hope to add a few thoughts to Dortmund, etc.

lee, we are indeed doing pretty well at the moment - thanks.

the musical sort, eh? you can tell already..? actually i can believe that, our girl *loves* making different noises with her mouth and throat - and particularly likes the harsh varieties, as indeed she does when they are fired back at her... i plan to try her out with lauren newton soon :)

(might save diamanda galas for when she's a bit older..!)

look forward to reading any comments you might have - please note that dortmund is still not fully written up yet, i am behind schedule again (much going on at present) - just the first half of the concert is up at the moment, plus of course the "contextual" piece...
