"we interrupt this broadcast..."

... to bring you a brief announcement: on this day at 17.47 local time, mrs c. gave birth to our first child, a daughter (a development which some of you knew about, and which i hinted at in my post of april 22nd). this being a very joyous and meaningful occasion for me, i wished to announce it here!

*********************

now, as regards this project (also very important to me, and itself one year old now!), one lesson i am hoping to learn from parenthood is the true value of my time, so that i will make better use of (all of) it, going forwards...

... in the meantime, on what may be one of the last restful nights i have for the foreseeable, i confess without a blush (well... much) that braxtothon phase three never even quite got finished - yet; but you know what they say about life and plans... and that goes for (almost) everything...! so, anyway, when i can squeeze it in, phase three will wrap itself up; the other posts will continue too... just don't expect two posts a week or anything like that, for a while! but please rest assured: this is to be continued...

by the way, the braxton piano box set is indeed en route - fuck the free download in this case, i wanted the real thing* (and i'm sure i always knew it)

naturally i'm not about to publish the download links here anyway, and fwiw, those of you who still burn cd-rs to listen (like me!) will have a hard time using any fewer than eight cds for the whole set ... nah, i wanted the real thing, course i did...

meantime, though, i found myself alone with the dogs on my first night of fatherhood - mrs c. still confined for a day or two - and feeling like some meaningful music, ended up putting on *triotone* (braxton/szabados/tarasov) again... truth be told i had a fair few things on my mind tonight and did not follow to title piece at all, but still bounced round the room a bit to the master's reed solo on "black toots" (bartok meets monk, sez the liners)... the playing on this album is incredible, and there are plenty of things to say about it but... again, tonight is not the time - !

... and yes, before anyone asks, gtm will be played in the house sooner rather than later..!

CONGRATS!
Don't forget to put this one on for Baby C :)

Congratulations.
With any luck some 'paternity leave' should come out of it.
[I'm being agreeably surprised by the 'Parker project' at the moment, or most of it.]

Congratulations! I had dropped out just as I'd started posting here because we, too, have a new baby in the house. In celebration, I finally got a copy of the Iridium set, and there's a tentative father/son listening session tomorrow afternoon. Best wishes to you and your family.

thankyou VERY much to all those who have sent their good wishes, etc (either via comments here or by email). hope you'll understand that for once i am not going to answer you all individually, but lee, congratulations to you too! :))

fuck me this new parenting stuff is hard work... they just don't prepare you for it, no-one is supposed to talk about how hard it is - on the other hand, if they tried, did i listen? could i have understood ahead of time what it would mean? same answer to both q's of course ;-) new post coming up... c x

Thanks so much. Yes, it's a lot of work, and I definitely didn't listen. Maybe didn't want to believe it? But the boy and I had a lot of success with Iridium. He was entranced the whole time, eyes wide open and just listening. He probably had a better listening session than I did, I was so focused on him. (Side note: That set is completely blowing me away. I've only listened through Comp. 352, but wow, wow, wow.) Now, he's relaxing to some Dolphy, his new love.
